Meet the white rhinos backstage

Disney calls the white rhinoceros Earth’s second-largest land animal, and this tour takes you backstage to see the park’s rhinos as few visitors do.

Their keepers lead the hour, explaining how the animals behave and the threats facing rhinos in the wild.

Disney describes these one-ton armored animals as among the most endangered on Earth.

Who can go and what to wear

Every guest must be at least 4, and anyone under 18 needs a participating adult alongside them.

It runs outdoors, rain or shine unless the weather is severe, so check the forecast and wear comfortable closed-toe shoes.

Cameras, video equipment and phones stay put away for the whole tour.

Guests who can’t leave their wheelchair may stay in it, but room on the transport vehicle is tight, so confirm with Disney ahead of the day.

Check-in, tickets and cancellations

Check in at least 15 minutes early at the Curiosity Animal Tours kiosk, across from the entrance to Kilimanjaro Safaris. The tour leaves on time, and late arrivals can’t join.

Animal Kingdom admission is required and not included, and a theme park reservation may also be needed.

Cancel more than a day ahead, because a later cancellation or a no-show costs the full price.

For the elephant herd instead, Caring for Giants starts from the same kiosk.

Catching an Up Close with Rhinos spot

Even when every date shows full, spots come back as other guests cancel ahead of the one-day deadline.
