Ale & Compass reads like a New England inn — dark wood, brass, nautical charts — and cooks to match, with chowders, seafood and slow-braised dishes that suit an evening off your feet more than a quick refuel between rides.

Breakfast here has a quiet reputation among regular visitors, and is often the meal people mean when they say they cannot get a table.

A small room in a busy corner

The dining room is genuinely small. Put it a few minutes from EPCOT’s International Gateway, within reach of Hollywood Studios by boat, and surrounded by two large resorts, and the arithmetic stops working in your favor.

It is not a restaurant that fills because of hype. It fills because there are not many seats and a great many people can walk to it.

If it is full, you are already near alternatives

Ale & Compass sits between the Yacht Club and Beach Club, which share a stretch of walkway with the BoardWalk and EPCOT’s International Gateway. Very few Disney restaurants have this many table-service options within a few minutes on foot.

That is worth knowing while you wait on an alert. A returned table here can be booked in the time it takes to walk over, and if nothing appears you have not committed to a corner of the resort with nowhere else to eat.

Getting in

Small restaurants release tables in ones and twos rather than in blocks, which makes them frustrating to check by hand and well suited to an alert.
