What makes Jiko special

Jiko means the cooking place in Swahili, and the name is literal: African-inspired cuisine with Indian and Mediterranean influences, prepared in two open wood-burning ovens at the heart of the dining room. The signature is the oak-grilled filet, widely called one of the best steaks anywhere on property.

The room itself — warm, sunset-toned lighting and an open kitchen — makes it one of Walt Disney World's favorite special-occasion and date-night restaurants.

The wine list

Jiko holds the largest collection of South African wines in North America — hundreds of bottles — with pairings guided by the staff. For wine lovers it's a draw in its own right, and part of why the restaurant is treated as a destination rather than a quick dinner.

Jiko or Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to two very different restaurants. Jiko is the upscale, signature, dinner-only experience in Jambo House. Over at Kidani Village, Sanaa is the more relaxed African-Indian spot with savanna-view tables. If you're after fine dining and wine, Jiko is the one — and its tables are among the harder to get.

As a signature restaurant with a limited dining room, dinner-only service, and a loyal following, Jiko sees far more demand than availability. Prime evening tables book out weeks ahead, and same-day openings come almost entirely through cancellations.
